Time-saving ways for teachers to use prezi in their classes…
by PreziGirl
1. TO FEATURE/SHOWCASE STUDENT WORK-- Students will beam with pride when they see their assignment as a featured example of excellent work! Assignments collected in digital formats can be easily included in your prezis as pic files, if not, you can ‘go old school’ with a scanner to include student’s work! Showing examples of great work to your classes saves you time in explaining exactly how a ‘finished product’ should look! You can even show your grading rubric along side the examples!
2. DAILY
BELLRINGERS/CLASS START-UPS: Whether
you are making your own prezi
bellringers/start-ups, or using the free daily class start-ups at www.prezigirl.com/CLASS_START-UPs.php using a bellringer can
help you to actually enjoy those first few moments of class…..having a prezi as
a daily bellringer/start-up activity can
give you time to get your attendance taken, check over homework
assignments, conference with a student, or just enjoy another sip of coffee as
your students settle into the learning mind-set…ahhh---yes, let prezi start the
class for you. I promise, your day will go much better!
3. CONSISTENCY IN LESSON FORMAT—Do you have weekly
spelling or vocabulary words? If so, you
know that students often prefer to have the new weekly words presented in the
same familiar format, which makes it easier for them to interact with or copy
when taking notes, reviewing, or studying. Creating your own word-learning
template prezi enables you to save time
in creating your vocab lesson each week, and enables students to have
consistency when acquiring new spelling words/vocabulary.
4.
VOCAB INSTRUCTION...Research
tells us that if students can make a VISUAL CONNECTION when they attempt to
acquire a new word, they are far more likely to remember it! Prezi’s capacity to
zoom in on words, pictures, and videos improve the chances of a student remembering
new words, thus increasing their vocabulary, thus making them a better reader
over all! Save time spent on repeated
vocab reviews by creating visually meaningful prezis that encourage students to
remember those new words!
5.
DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING---
Yep, “differentiated learning” is the big buzz phrase in education these days
and along comes prezi to make it even easier for teachers to create lessons
that appeal to visual, auditory, and kinectic learners! In addition to the
visual and sound capabilities of prezi, try leaving blanks in your prezis and
having your kinetic learners RUN up to the white board (where the prezi is
being shown) and use a dry erase marker to write the answers in the blanks! It
works---and kids love it! Save time
in re-teaching by creating prezis that appeal to all types of learners!
6. The PREZU U Library--- All Teachers are short on time and loooong on lessons that need to be planned and prepared! Why re-invent the wheel? Take a look at the Library at Prezi U! A creative and brilliant teacher, (like you!) may have already created a prezi on your lesson topic! Save some time and copy/edit their prezi if it’s not exactly what you need! Check back often as our Prezi U library is growing by leaps and bounds every day! The time you save by using a shared Prezi U library prezi will free you up to plan more creative lessons, grade papers, or just take a break in your hectic teaching day! Whew~
Look for part 2 of these time-saving ideas next month! And PLEASE—if you have any time-saving prezi ideas to share, send them to me and I will include them in the next post!
